WHO WE ARE

Mount Vernon Music Association is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization whose mission is to provide outstanding performances of live music to communities primarily in northeast Texas. To fulfill this mission we offer concerts of traditional chamber music, jazz and other styles as well as educational and family concerts, programs for nursing homes, and interaction of performing and the visual arts.

MOUNT VERNON MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

Who is eligible: High school senior from East Texas planning to major in music

Amount: $1000

Application deadline extended to: April 1

Mount Vernon Music Association is pleased to offer a competitive scholarship award to an East Texas graduating high school senior who is going on to study music at the college level. The intent of the award is to encourage and acknowledge excellence in performance and academics. The award will be presented at our annual Youth Showcase in May.

Applicants should submit an audition recording and resume along with the attached application form. Two letters of recommendation are also required: one letter from a teacher at the applicant’s high school, and one from someone in the community. Applicants must have at least a B average. The cash award will be disbursed upon proof of college enrollment.

HOW TO APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

1. Complete application form

2. Distribute recommendation forms to selected individuals

3. Submit a 10-minute DVD, CD or cassette recording of a recent performance

4. Send all materials by April 1 to:

OUR MISSION STATEMENT

-- To fill a cultural need for high quality performance of live music in Texas, with an emphasis on the under-served areas of Northeast and East Texas, playing for audiences who might otherwise be unable to experience live concerts due to limitations of health, distance, or economic means.

-- To encourage and develop interest in the creation and sharing of music through the presentation of live performances, educational concerts, and special workshops.

-- To explore, celebrate and preserve our rich musical heritage from diverse cultures by presenting varied combinations of ensembles, instruments, and ethnic musical traditions.

-- To nurture and support a broad base of music lovers, bringing beauty and harmony into the lives of communities both large and small through the performance of great music from the past, present and future.
